Time, Silence and Pausing

Silence is deep as Eternity: speech is shallow as Time. Thomas Carlyle, on Sir Walter Scott

I found something compelling about the sound of the Thames River sloshing into this tiny stairwell. Its siren song called above the quotidian urban landscape and held me to its rhythm. The ripples threaded the past to the present to the future. Each slap of the waves spoke of thousands of years of hopes and dreams, stories and sorrows. The Thames is alive with the living and the dead. I was suspended; paused within the liminal territory between the present and the possible.
