Google’s Eight Pillars of Innovation

I’d expected a little more imagination from Google, but at least their Eight Pillars of Innovation, articulated in their Think Quarterly publication, referenced something akin to Dusty Davidson’s idea around Accelerated Serendipity (see these notes from his Arthaus presentation), when Susan Wojcicki said,

“Our iterative process often teaches us invaluable lessons.”

Especially refreshing was when Wojcicki implicitly acknowledges that good ideas spring from discussions outside of the expected work environment or parameters:

“I also want to be a part of the conversations Googlers are having in the hallways.”

What is perhaps more interesting than anything appearing in this issue of Think Quarterly is that it is being published as a limited edition hardbound book, mailed to a few influential marketing figures and agencies. How pleasantly retro; like a long, slow, insightful conversation…
